The ban on children accompanying pilgrims was announced earlier this year by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This decision aims to enhance safety amid concerns over overcrowding, a recurring issue highlighted by past incidents like the 2015 Mina stampede. The ministry has also prioritized first-time pilgrims to ensure more Muslims can fulfill this religious obligation at least once, aligning with Islamic principles.

Visa policies have tightened as well. Since February 1, 2025, pilgrims from 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, are restricted to single-entry visas valid for 30 days. This shift from multi-entry options is designed to curb unauthorized Hajj participation, which has historically strained resources and safety measures. Registration for Saudi citizens and residents is already underway via the Nusuk app, with new payment plans allowing domestic pilgrims to pay in three installments.

On the service front, Saudi Arabia has introduced luxurious Hajj packages for 2025, featuring upgraded camps in Mina and enhanced amenities, positioning the pilgrimage as a blend of spiritual devotion and modern comfort. 

There’s also a refund policy in place if a pilgrim dies or is incapacitated by an accident before the journey, the full amount will be returned, offering some financial reassurance.

Globally, preparations are ramping up. For instance, Thailand’s government has established a healthcare system to support its pilgrims, reflecting a broader trend of nations ensuring their citizens’ well-being during the journey.
